IYENGAR YOGA

What is the practice of Iyengar Yoga?
Anyone can attend an Iyengar Yoga class and feel comfortable (Yes, that includes the extra age, extra weight, extra tight and extra physical issues individuals).  Anything new will feel uncomfortable at first, but we strive for a supportive community, where we all care for one another.  If at anytime anything makes you feel uncomfortable I would like to be notified immediately, questions are always encouraged.  Iyengar Yoga starts by explaining the name and definition of the asanas (poses). One will receive precise instructions along the way and at times props will be provided to keep you safe (Iyengar teachers are held to the most rigorous of standards).  While entering asanas you will be able to follow a mirrored image of the pose to gain a deeper understanding of how you should feel in the pose.  In the asana you will be carefully observed and offered feedback to better perform the asana.  You will be shown ways to improve the pose and most likely perform the pose again to get a deeper stretch giving more access to your body.  I have found the process of Iyengar Yoga, developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, has brought healing benefits and freedom in my body. Yoga means union and helps one to unite the body, mind and spirit.

I am currently a level 1 certified teacher, which means I am able to teach healthy bodies and one should seek a higher leveled teacher if you experience injuries.  I will do the best to advise you, I have worked with many different body injuries, but please note I am not a doctor, not a physical therapist, nor an advanced level Iyengar teacher.
